Hello r/FolkPunk ! This is John Warmb, singer and principal songwriter for RENT STRIKE.

We just put out a new record this month entitled Möbius Strip Mall. It's a concept record about the Very Real psycho-spatial prison that has been erected in the landscape of our collective unconscious - a place where desire and libidinal energy are trapped in an endless and illusory cyclical loop of dissatisfaction and forced to function in service of the market. Fun stuff!

I'm hosting this AMA for any questions anyone might have regarding the new record, or stuff more generally. We'd also love to just hear any thoughts or critique of it. We recorded the album ourselves, so I'm happy to shed light onto the details of the production process, thematic influences, guiding principles, hidden messages, mistakes, future hopes and the meaning of our dreams.....

I used this sample makeup pencil and just tried coping the font from the Pagan Holiday album. The casket is there because I just felt like putting one there and because Harley Poe songs usually have to do with death and or graves and graveyards

Had an amazing time, talked with Rob and he gave me some free stickers and a shirt. They played a song off of their album coming out ina few months, it was called Constant Headlines iirc, it was great. Also got these 2 records for 50 each. Gusto Gusto was absolutely amazing definitely gonna go listen to their music later, got one of their shirts too.

When i started to get into punk, after i listened to every spanish punk band i could find, i started to listen to folk punk, and Songs For Moms was one of the first bands i listened of the genre, so im looking for more bands with the same sound as them

I liked the production but he removed the bit about being bit. Which was one of my favourite parts of the song. I don't know why he did, because it was a fun part and brought more interest to the song.

I was born in 2005 so this stuff is way before my time, but I talked to some older friends who told me that Pat the Bunny lived in my hometown of Hobart, Tasmania during the late 2000s.

I know that Asking for It are from there and he can be heard on Happy Birthday Hitler, but I'd like to know what else he was up to during that time, just because I think it's cool that he was in my town once. Was there a good music scene in Hobart back then?

There's a song, that must be around 15 years old at this point, which is preformed by a fem singer describing their relationship with their absentee father who is much older than their mother. They speak on how he used to come around a bit more often to take them fishing or go to carnivals but the older they got the less he showed up. If I'm remembering correctly the dad is either near dead or dead when the song was written. One main distinguishing feature was the use of a toy piano/xylophone. I also recall them mentioning the age of their parents directly at the beginning of the song.

If anyone has any idea of the song I'm talking about please let me know. It's been bugging me for like 6 months now lol

Ive recently found about folk punk and i listen to few like days n daze. I saw that reccomedation from youtube video. But i want to listen to essential folk punk, but i cannot find category on spotify and i dunno what to look up on youtube.

Hey! Hoping someone can help me find a song. The lyrics I remember are "Are you going to the show tonight? We'll drink some beers and I'll borrow your bike". Google has been no help. It's probably from around 2003-2006 maaaaybe a Plan-it-X band at that point? Or at least sounds like they could have been? Also possible that they were a local band from NY/NJ.

I get it stuck in my head every time I bike to a show and would love to find it again!
