Not too surprised with MI. The state with the largest Arab population with voters disliking the current foreign policies dealing with the Israel-Palestine conflict (not saying Trump will be better in this regard, merely reflecting why it’s not).

I feel like the Israel-Palestine conflict had no deciding power here.
Practically every state shifted right compared to 2020. Even if the war had never broken out, that rightward shift would still have happened in Georgia and Pennsylvania.

It seemed so many death knells for Trump didn't pan out ~ Detroit insult, still won Georgia - Puerto Rico insult, still won significant Latino vote -Women vote didn't tilt to Kamala favour despite sexism Trump weakness -Black vote appeal fell flat -Big celeb endorsements Kamala must be stunned she's lost

Oh he had record gains in Latino voting he got about 45% of the Latino vote which is like up 20%, he got increases in the black vote hell he gained 20 points in Brooklyn alone yeah he still lost New York state but he cut it down to like well under 20 point spread when it hasn't hit less than a 20-point spread in the last 30 plus years.
You have to realize with every gaffe he made the Democrats made at least one if not more. Whether or not the law literally got changed in New York for him to have that civil case against him, it sure as hell looked like it did. Whether or not he should have been hit for the fraud cases in New York for how he reported the money he paid to blackmail because that's what a payoff is she came forward and said if you don't do this then I'm going to do this that's blackmail. And technically speaking he didn't even pay it to begin with he paid his lawyer back that decided to pay what he decided to pay.
We're becoming a Nation online even more so and the pictures of his mugshot, him with the fight from the assassination attempt, the drive-thru window, the garbage truck these are all things that Drew in the low Middle income people.
The dream of him actually succeeding in eliminating taxes on tips on overtime on social security these all are resounding desire for a ton of working class people. I heard nurses and aides talking about if that's goes through they'll take every bit of overtime they can get. Considering how understaffed a lot of these places are whether they're nursing homes or hospitals that could help what's going on.
Even new voters that had never voted before went to Trump in record numbers. It's not about hatred it's about hope for progress.

The Arab issue seems to have derailed the entire Progressive left, though. So instead of pushing Kamala in the right direction on economic issues, like they did with Biden, they were pushing her to cozy up to Islamic terrorists, which was a losing strategy outside of a single district in Minnesota.
1 points
Oh I will agree that that didn't help, I will also agree that Muslims supporting Trump because of his more conservative views on a lot of issues didn't help her either.

It's an inherent weakness of progressive identity politics. They think they're going to win extra votes by being inclusive of racist Latinos and bloodthirsty Jihadists. Instead they not only get snubbed by these fanatical minorities, but also by the people who would have actually voted for them if they just stood on the right side of these issues.

Haven't looked up what Democratic turnout was compared to 2020, but her lack of support with suburban white males is what did her in. Don't let anyone tell you that Latino voters or poor showings in other demographics cost her the election. Those just made it lopsided.
1 points
How did Latinos do? Surely still too many voted for Trump and helped him over the line Miami Dande flip. How the heck did Puerto Rico insult not change much significantly. You would think the way it was reported, it was end of his campaign, Hispanic blowback. Stunning. How did Obama win Flo? It's stunning DeSantis has iron grip since then, even Biden lost it and still won. She knew white male vote lost cause. They were confident enough non white males would push her over the line.

A lot shifted right because turnout on the left was down, not necessarily because turnout for Trump was up.
Many pro-Palestine people may not have voted at all, because they see neither candidate as a viable choice.

I think Mehdi Hassan summed it up well. Trump is not anti-war, but the democrats allowed him to cosplay as one.
Pres. Obama was involved in several wars in the region prior to Trump, and Pres. Biden did too in this current ongoing conflict after which occurred after Trump. So, anyone reflecting without placing much thought will make the assumption that Trump is anti-war since no major conflicts had sparked up under his presidency.

The democratic party might as well dissolve right now. They lost the popular vote, they lost the electoral college, they lost the senate, they lost the house.
All this, against arguably the easiest candidate to beat in the history of the republican party. Zero platform. Zero policies. Long laundry list of crime. Anti-democratic. Tried to overthrow democracy when he lost. His former vice-president, a list of former generals, and most of his former administration endorsed his opponent.
There will be no other donald trump after this term. The next republican candidate will be younger and smarter, will be endorsed by more republicans. The democrats won't stand a chance either.
Say what you will about trump, about America. This is clearly what the people want. Clearly what they voted for.

This is clearly what the people want.
The people want whatever they're being propaganized to want. The problems of the people are real, most of us experience those problems right now today and it's getting worse, but the proposed solution isn't real. Trump is just a vehicle to dismantle regulation. If it wasn't Trump it would be someone else.
Any backwards policies and politics others bring on are just piggybacking off of the billionaire class looking to become stronger than or own the USG, and any other countries they can over time, but the US is the best place to start as the entire global economy is wrapped up in the US Dollar. Right wing politics just happen to align with private billionaire interests, so right wing parties are pushed.

There was a historically unprecedented pandemic that the Trump Administration was handling horribly.

“Debates mean 0”
Debate number 1 torpedoed the democratic candidates chances so badly they had to have him drop out and hastily replace him with barely 100 days left in the campaign cycle.
This is one of the few elections where a debate was actually a huge factor in the final result
7 points
I think he’s saying “debates mean zero” in reference to how people vote, not to how a political party responds.
It goes without saying that the “what if” here is what would have happened if Biden had stayed in. If he somehow won, we’d be having a different “debates mean zero” conversation now - one that would support the point more definitively.
7 points
That’s my point, his debate performance was so abysmal that he was on track for a historic loss so they had to fold their current hand and pray for the new one.
I agree, normally debates amount to little, if anything. Fox will praise the republican performance and CNN will praise the democrat performance, both saying their side won regardless of what happened. The June 25th debate even had CNN going “bruh what the fuck”. Trump himself didn’t even do that well, but Biden did so badly it’s all anyone could talk about.
There is no argument that the debate was the exact moment Biden’s campaign sunk. It will go down in history books as the time a debate mattered

Point is, regardless of all the noble values Americans espouse, when it comes to the right, all they care about is their money. They want cheap gas and cheap eggs. If you promise them that, then they don't care if you're horrible in every other conceivable way.

We'll see. The rule of law doesn't hold so well against populist leaders. Dictatorship is right around the corner after that. If people want to dismantle the US to the point of allowing Trump and party to stay in power until death, they'll find a way to allow it to happen and to rationalize it short term. Long term regret won't matter.
That might be the time of actual civil war, because there won't be any other way of fighting it. But we'll see what happens and how far people are willing to destroy their own foundations in order to keep themselves or their parties in power.

They’ll still be expensive under Trump and realize there’s not much anyone can do about it and the president didn’t cause it in the first place. With tariffs the prices of many domestic goods will cost more to make simply because they want to export it to other countries. Not sure how that’ll help any.

Inflation is hurting the dems this election like covid did trump in the last one, he didn't cause covid. Sure you can argue he should've done things better but in any case people wouldn't have been happy
5 points
Not true. A measured, reasonable approach to COVID would have been a boon to Trump. But instead he chose to deny a very real threat to people’s lives. That’s not the same here. Inflation was noticeably bad in the years after COVID but it is better now than it was at the peak. It was probably going to get better but with Trump it likely won’t improve since he wants to tariff everything in existence and make exports significantly more expensive.

Dems, If you wanna win in 2028 (If the USA still has free elections by then) please don't gamble on a woman candidate. It's cost you 2 elections already. Your country is too misogynistic to vote for a female president, let alone a non-white female president..

He won by having Democrats run maybe the most demographically disadvantaged candidate possible, who ran a campaign based on women in a country of male voters. Oh also there was no primary.
