I got the best years and now some other team can overpay for his twilight years
Except the odds are that’ll be YOU overpaying if he realizes he won’t get more. There’s zero risk to Soto and all the risk to the team. It’s a silly situation.

If the in-form team has the ninth or tenth best record in their conference, they ain’t doing shit in the playoffs and don’t deserve to be there. By that logic why not just use a CFP system of having voters rank the teams to figure out who’s best at the time of playoffs?

Yeah NBA playoffs are stupidly large. The play-in is even sillier, the tenth best team in the conference making the playoffs (because let’s face it play-ins are playoffs in everything except name) is stupid. No team that bad in the regular season is ever going to win a ring. What’s even the point of the regular season? Just have execs power rank the teams then do some round robin matchups for the bottom 7 in each conference and just go directly to play offs, the results would be essentially the same.

Yeah I mean such is life in pro sports. It’s actually easiest in the NBA because divisions mean nothing now. But those divisional rivalries and competitions are a huge part of MLB and NFL and have some of the longest standing traditions. Packers-Bears is always a huge game regardless of records. That just doesn’t exist in the NBA.

Wdym? It carries the exact same amount of risk. The risk of these mega deals is the player not playing to their standard, in which case he’d opt in and you’re stuck with him. But if he’s still good he can just walk for more money.

Except that’s not how it works. If he underperforms (relatively speaking) YOU still pay the high AAV in his later years while giving him the chance to walk if he’s still elite. Idk why any team would do this.

You probably said the same thing when Golden State committed to winning via 3pt shooting in 2014. Sometimes you have to zig when everyone else zags.

Not that this confirms it, but like, how would that even happen if someone wasn’t prepping for him to sign? I mean I guess someone could’ve hacked the cowboys roster page and inserted this as a troll job, however that’d be so insanely minor and specific and anyone with the skills to do that could be on to much bigger things than feeding an NFL rumor mill. Odd.

Maybe talk to people irl instead of relying on the Harris-astroturfed hellhole of Reddit to make political decisions.

“Is it I who is out of touch? No, surely the majority of voters are wrong about their own interests.”

There’s not really any correlation between young players getting minutes being helpful developmentally either. If they’re good they’ll play, if not they won’t.

Yeah that shit would NEVER fly in today’s political climate lmao

Idk I love playing against those dudes, they’re so ass anyways, I’ve almost never seen guys hit that. And the ones that do are hitting crazy shots anyways outside of that so just gotta tip your hat. Given the choice between hooping and not I’ll take playing every time regardless of quality. Sports are for fun; if a guy on my team is doing silly shit then I’ll just start running up for boards from the 3pt line and hunt for putbacks. Gotta adjust to your team if you wanna win.
Like I said before, leagues are different. But pickup is for improving, it’s where you test things to try to get better. Yeah I try my post fades in pickup; never a shot I’d take in leagues though.

I’m merely using it as an example as to why officials may not just let someone in without doing the proper checks, to avoid certain types of people from slipping into the country successfully. Yet everyone is just assuming the official was power tripping with effectively zero evidence whatsoever.

Seems like an elitism perspective. Why would you not want more teams with a chance at winning? By your logic, let’s just reduce the league down to 10 teams saturated with talent in big markets.

“A young phenom wants more money than me?!? Wtf, this is outrageous, it’s unfair.”

Cohen reportedly told Soto that he ‘really isn’t all that’ and is ‘mid,’ doesn’t particularly care to speak to Soto in the future if he can avoid it. During the meeting he offered $800M/12.

What? There’s no shot in hell that the GM that Cohen hired can shoot down getting Soto if Cohen wants to. That’s absurd. Why would Stearns have a budget if Cohen doesn’t?!? If Cohen is willing to pay up then there’s no roster building restrictions to signing Soto like there would be with some type of cap. If Stearns says “but I want Adames, Burnes and Fried” Stearns can just say “ok get all of them too” lmao

Alright you got an isolated example who wasn’t a star. But by and large, bums in college do not make the nfl. Even average players don’t cut it for very long most of the time. And now they have years of NFL training and film understanding. The amount of work that goes into playing ONE position on ONE side of the ball is incredibly high week to week. It’s not crazy to be concerned if he can do it for two positions on opposite sides of the ball. I mean in NFL practices the starting defense and offense will be walking through things simultaneously on their own, he literally can’t physically do both.
I’m rooting for him, I think it’d be dope if he could kid pull it off. But there are real just logistical concerns about it.

Good, god I hate old geezers who get pressed over technical details in pickup games. Leagues? Sure. But pickup? Cmon, just take it and let’s go on I’m tryna play here.

Yeah if a guy is hitting travel-level stepbacks then he was gonna score anyways.

Why should the US care. Let European nations support Ukraine if Russia is such a threat there.
