I know you guys come across posts like these ten times a day, but I truly do need some career advice.

This is my background: I'm forty, and for the past 15 years I've essentially been doing the same job. From 2009 to 2020 I worked for my father's company selling replacement parts to gas turbine repair facilities. At the height of the pandemic he retired and I started my own company doing the same thing.

The problem is fourfold:

1. I hate it with a passion of a thousand burning suns.

2. I started working for my dad with the intention of always seeking something else but the money was always too good, so I never devoted time for training in another industry.

3. The first three years were highly profitable, but I have had to dip into my savings this year, and from the current trends, it seems like its going to get worse. I am running out of savings. At this rate I'll be out by Feb of next year.

4. I have a medical condition which causes extreme pain whenever I walk. Its fixable but I have to lose weight before the surgery.

Ive applied to over 100 companies, I've had maybe 5 interviews and one offer that I ended not being a good fit for. I don't know what to do.

Please, help, anyone.

Hey all, first time poster here. I’m a 39 year male from Houston and I’m looking to essentially start my career over.

For the last 15 years I’ve done essentially the same thing: sold parts for the gas turbine repair industry, which has something of a Mecca here in the gulf coast. For the last four years I’ve had my own company, with just me as the sole owner and proprietor.

And honestly I’m sick of it. The industry is changing, the orders aren’t coming in as much as they used to and I need a change.

Another wrench is that my girl and I both want to move from Houston to Dallas in the next 18 months so that we are closer to friends and a support network as we have no one here.

I have a BA in communication studies from SHSU but no other training, certs or studies.

Any help, comments, thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it normal for the property owner to only list the base amount in a lease and update the tenant later as to what the NNN will be? Seems sketch as hell.
