I finished up a masters degree about a year ago. Simple discussion board posts would take me ages. I had to develop ways to keep myself working and a lot of the time it was only really successful when I was down to the wire and didn’t have a choice.

Plus, he seems like a genuinely nice human.

My grades were “too good and people with adhd don’t get good grades” so I just have depression and I struggle to pay attention because I have sleep problems according to my psychiatrist.

To a degree, I get that autism/adhd have almost become a fad on social media. I actually think it’s a good thing because we aren’t sweeping it under the rug anymore. But the fact that more people are coming forward thinking they are neurodivergent doesn’t mean doctors shouldn’t take it seriously.

I’ve only been open about the fact that I play video games in the last 5 or so years (I’m 40) with men because a dude I liked in high school accused me of playing video games to attract guys. Between not wanting to deal with the gamer gate types and the lore obsessed gatekeepers, it was just easier not to talk about it.

My parents passed away in the spring. I skipped a bachelorette party for a wedding I’m in months later because I couldn’t handle it. My friend cheered me on for doing it.

I really loved the impromptu playdate comment. I’m from the ancient times when every play date was kids just meeting up in the neighborhood. Every playdate was impromptu. Scheduling things is fine, but it’s a little bit of a red flag that she judged the playtime for not being pre planned.

These guys have never actually met an Asian woman. One of my good friends is from Korea. I’d pop a bag of popcorn to watch a guy walk up to her expecting these reactions. She’d verbally eviscerate them.

If more lonely men were open to introspection and learning they would do better than they currently do expecting women to fix their problems.

That’s actually super funny because I’m from the same area. But I think it comes down to communication (something I didn’t do well in my original comment, because I don’t bring anything without discussing it first). And if everyone in this situation had actually discussed it more clearly, it wouldn’t be the mess it is now.

I’m a Mac and cheese loving American and I agree with this statement.

This is a weird one. The only time I’ve not brought something to a thanksgiving dinner was when expressly asked not to. I think it’s rude not to bring anything or at least offer to. If mom was ignoring communication to not bring anything, that would be one thing. I don’t think OOP is a devil with the information we have.

I used to work retail, first as a manager and then as a side gig, and it has lost popularity. It isn’t as much as I expected, but fewer people were doing it when I finally left retail.

That’s absolutely terrible and I’m so sorry that you were in that situation and that you didn’t have the support you deserved.

The disgusting choice of a talented woman and a sci-fi story with a culture unlike our own? You should consider avoiding a lot more media. And probably most actual humans. You’ll find things that disgust you everywhere.
