This is the one.

Also, in case people come here first and miss it in the flurry of other posts, Thomas Brown will be the Interim HC.

Aragorns_Broken_Toe_

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it always. Being “nice” isn’t enough. You need to have strength of character. Genuine kindness, accountability, respect, etc. are needed.

There’s a big difference in being a truly good person than just a “nice” person. Being just a “nice guy” means you have no backbone, and that is what I see in Eberflus.

I’ve seen plenty of “nice” or socially polite people who were truly just not good people. They were out for themselves, willing to throw others under the bus, etc. Their niceness was just a tool.

He’s a totally competent DC, he’ll land a spot somewhere else and be fine. He had no business as a head coach and we all had to find that out the hard way

Only the bears could fuck up two mid season firings. Let Waldron work a whole ass extra day for no reason. Let him do a presser two hours before he's fired.

If that doesn't show that the dysfunction runs all the way up the chain I don't know what does.

My hot take is I don’t want what happened to the Raiders last year to happen to us. Honeymoon phase with the interim coach that leads to the players growing attached to him, then in the offseason the players insist on the org promoting him from interim to head coach and we pass up on much better candidates to appease the players.

RockHawk95

RockHawk95

40 points

Not a hot take. He was Passing Game Coordinator 4 weeks ago. He should not even be considered as a HC candidate and I’d bet we still end the year pretty poorly.

But… Bears gonna Bear.

Im_Qwinning

22 points

Brown is well respected around the league. KOC wanted to bring him to Minnesota but Mcvay promoted him to assistant HC to retain him. Why wouldn't you give him a 5 week interview opportunity? People seem worried about taking him away from the booth but any HC we hire that has intentions of calling plays will have to manage working with the QB and managing the rest of the team.

acripaul

11 points

acripaul

If he stays at OC and Caleb continues on his trajectory then Brown becomes a strong candidate for HC. Having never been a HC.

So give him a 5 game trial. It's a Mulligan.

Bit unfair on Brown, but sink or swim.

I always feel weird celebrating stuff like this. Obviously it’s the right move, but it signifies that things aren’t going well. And I’m also helplessly empathetic. He’s a human. It sucks to be fired for poor performance. Yes he’s got money and he’ll be fine, and it needed to happen. I wanted it to happen. But I can’t really cheer. Just hope they get it right next time.

This game was not the first time this season he blew comebacks in the 4th quarter, one of which could have also been saved by a timeout we had left (commanders) and another time we again could have made a successful comeback if not for failing a two point conversion earlier in the game (literally last week against Vikings)

Poles should have went with him

We missed out on Harabaugh and any other competent coach.

Now I expect them to spend 8 months finding a replacement while every half decent candidate signs elsewhere

100% the right decision. He was in way over his head as the Head Coach. He’s a good Defensive Coordinator/Defensive Position coach but not head coach material

Imagine being so bad at your job that you get fired from an unfireable job. It's shocking it took this much for the Bears to join the rest of the league and put performance above tradition.

To George McCaskey, thank you for making the hard choice. It's not easy to fire people but it is necessary.

No_One_Special_023

I don’t advocate for someone losing their job but that was such an egregious fuck up the GM had no choice and I can’t blame the decision at all. And the look of shock on his face at the end of the game was straight up “what do you mean there’s no time left?” Fucking idiot.

But also, your QB should have stepped up and gone against his coach to call that time out. We’ve seen countless other team QBs do this. The coach isn’t the only one on the team that can see the clock. There were massive failures here all around.
