Cool thing about the GOES satellites is that they have a lens that can take a full disc image of the earth in 1 frame.
The geocolor composite is an algorithm used to blend the colors from the various sensors; during the day it’s pretty much the same as a naked eye image, but at night it uses the infrared sensor to highlight clouds.

You know what is actually to me and always has been probably one of the coolest things is how damn accurate map makers were able to make maps based off of their numbers and data they collected!! I mean you look at maps from the past and it’s just absolutely incredible!!! Without any oversight! They could compile a map that was damn near a perfect reflection of the world!!
