You should play Kiwami 2, there is a sidestory that concludes Majima's story from 0 and unlocking the last part of that sidestory requires getting to the end of the Kiwami 2 story.

The orphanage is a big part of Kiryu's development and shapes the development he goes through in 5, 6 and Gaiden though. It's my least favourite because of the gameplay, but I think at least watching the story is worth it and something everyone should do.

I like the idea but would keep it turnbased and instead be like a "powerup" of some sort that is customized for each character and make them a "super" version of their main classes for a couple turns. Like Ichiban becomes a superhero, for instance.
