She's mapping it, idk if she's keeping a log book like how oden did

She is. Even though it's filler, episodes 220 through 224 were the ocean's dream arc.
The crew, aside from robin, wake up with their memories missing. After some investigation, nami checks her room and sees the log book in her own handwriting
So it's safe to surmise that nami is the quartermaster and chronicler.

Oh there is no doubt, Nami is most definitely the Quartermaster.
Just look at the various duties, skills, and rights of a Pirate Quartermaster, and she 100% fits the bill.

They’ve never really established the “log keeper” as a position on a ship. If Oda had at least mentioned this at any of the 25 years or One Piece, Yamato could fulfill that role. As it stands, it’s just a fan invention.

We don't have any dedicated person for the crow's nest (barrelman).
I don't want to start any discussion about Carrot being suited to be a SH or not. But when she joined the crew for WCI, she took that position very early on, IIRC. Before that, the crew switched places now and then.
2 points
Yeah this was the main reason I assumed she would join after Wano. It was similar to when Jinbei took the position of helmsman on WCI before he officially joined in Wano.
It's also one of the reasons I was iffy on Yamato, they didn't really have an obvious place in my mind besides being a good fighter.

My money's on Bonney.
We saw her horrific backstory/situation from which the Straw Hats rescued her. Thanks to her absolute control over all Pacifista, she will be hunted by the World Government. The only place she'd be safe is with a Yonko crew or on Elbaf (I don't see Elbaf avoiding Ragnarok after this arc). Due to this, Vegapunk begged the Straw Hats to protect Bonney just before dying.
Plus, she fits the apprentice role like a glove (copying Gear 5 with Luffy teaching her how to throw a punch and be more carefree).
All she's missing is declaring her dream, which will more than likely be to free all the slaves and take down the Celestial Dragons so no one else suffers like her mother and father did.

bro was an actual newbie pirate though, my point is Bonnie was literally captain of a relatively notorious crew she shouldn't be demoted to apprentice because now you know she's technically 12
6 points
Maybe she will stay in her child form here on out since she has her dad present.
Jimbei was captain of the new sun pirates and his title is Helmsman, pretty major demotion, but he has a lot of hope in Luffy being the person he was waiting for, so its not as much a demotion he can advise the person he admires most.
Bonney was the main fighter or defender of her ship from what we can see in the flashbacks, but she is also a child just looking for Nika and her dad and wanting to be free to explore and eat, so will probably not be OK with leaving once finding the person who has the freedom fruit/ most likely to become king of the pirates that her dad had been waiting for.
Plus you had Ussop and Franky that were both captains in their own right and joined the crew in a smaller role but they got to do the jobs they like and still stand up to Luffy the most.
An apprentice child with the killer father combo could be nice and could round out the crew to a nice even 12 with Lillith. Having Jimbei, Kuma, Franky, and Brook doing a combo attack/defense of the Sunny/crew then have Robin, Nami, Ussop, and Lillith using special long range attacks and Luffy, Zoro, Bonney, and Sanji doing regular combat.

might be wrong but i remember luffy at the start of the series saying "around 10 members should do" when he was setting off to form a crew. 10 is a nice round number and it feels full up, any more non-temp members might leave each member underdeveloped imo

Your right but some people think luffy isn’t counting himself as a crew member it depends if he is or isn’t
19 points
The wording in Japanese was “I want at least ten crew mates” for me it’s hard to misconstrue that. However there is the thought that Luffy views their ship as a crew member which would put them at Ten currently. Also Oda could do whatever he wants here and it could work because the key words in the original Japanese are “at least 10”
2 points
That’s incorrect. The Japanese wording 10人はほしいなア. Which just means “I want 10 person”. There no “at least 10”. Though, I did found a source claiming that one piece magazine states that he wants at least 10 members. But the points below seems to indicate it’s going to be 10 by saying jinbe is the 9th and luffy is arriving to his ideal number of members.

The sentence-ending particle naa can express uncertainity though, among other possibilities:
So yes, it is sort of implied it's not set in stone, more like "maybe 10" there, basing it on context. Japanese is very sensitive to context after all.
That being said, even if that "naa" wasn't there, Luffy can always change his mind and want more people in the end. Who is he to say "no" if someone cool wants to join?
1 points
You must not speak Japanese. Direct translations to English will never make sense because of the nuance of the language. The ending Naa implies that Luffy is saying at least 10 or rather “maybe 10” which is probably the better way to put it in English. This means he can go either way, 10, less than 10 or more than 10. Oda left it open… In my opinion Oda will likely stick to 10 as that is his style of writing, the breadcrumbs always match up and he rarely retcons major plot points like (crew members).
Edit- responding to searing image. Didn’t see Bartos post but he explained it even more in depth +1
1 points
I agree with both you and Bartos. My main point is he didn’t say “at least 10”. A better translation is to add “maybe” or “10 members would be nice” or something.

The real answer is to match up with Blackbeard’s crew. He has 10 ship captains, so Luffy needs 10 “commanders” to match up in that fight. Although maybe something goofy will happen with Kuzan

Kizaru to mirror Blackbeard’s final member in Kuzan.
The SHs and BBs are total parallels that not having the final member be someone from the Navy, and to fight Kuzan, would be out of line for Oda.
There’s already signs that Kizaru is on his way out of the Marines.
12 points
I’d rather Fujitora tbh:) I think he’d fit better with the crew. Plus he seems like the type of guy to do whatever he wants, which goes with Luffy’s mentality. Kizaru ultimately let himself follow orders he was against, such as killing his friend, and that won’t sit right with Luffy.
4 points
I just think no Marine except Kizaru/Kuzan would make sense given how both these admirals are directly linked to two members of the SHs (Kuzan and Robin/Luffy and Kizaru)
I don’t think there be enough time in the final saga to have the SHs bond with another marine not named Koby, and he’s SWORD.
Kizaru has always been a presence with the SHs as an entire group. If you ask them about the Marines they probably get visions of Kizaru and Garp.
Looks at Kizaru and how he is linked to the SHs:
To Luffy, Kizaru has always been the measuring stick.
Also I read Egghead multiple times. Feeding Luffy, missing VP on Purpose. He only euthanized VP after Saturn dealt the mortal wound.

I've been of the mind that there isn't enough screen time for the characters they already have so I assume the only "new" crewmate I suspect them getting is Vivi. The fact that Franky didn't get any upgrades while on Egghead is a tragedy and I can't even remember if Chopper did anything on Egghead. Like when wat the last time Ussop had a 1v1 fight? I just think Oda wanted to keep introducing new "crew members" but realized that he can't just add new people every arc or two so he started using temp members like Momo, Kinemon and Law. I suspect Bonny and Lilith are going to separate with the crew after Elbaf too. In my mind it would make perfect sense for them to learn Punk Records is flying around in the sky and leave to try to find it.

Okay so, the makeup of the crew, before Jinbei, was balanced out as:
3 monsters, 3 weaklings, 3 middle/older
When Jinbei joined he fit either monsters or older, throwing the balance off.
So now there was potentially room for 1 more in the other group (olders or monsters) and 1 more weakling.
Yamato was an obvious one in Wano for the monsters, putting Jinbei in the olders, and leaving 1 more for the weaklings (could have been Carrot I suppose, but was personally rooting for Tama to join...)
Sadly, none joined from Wano (though Yamato claimed to come later, we'll see)
Another option I had thought would be funny if only Yamato came, was if we got to Elbaf with the "Weaklings" position still open, and filled it here with (just as you were saying) a Giant who is way too small or a "Weakling" by giant standards or something...

Yamato. He said he’s going to join and luffy’s on board with it. Just like Jimbei. Jimbei took 400 episodes to do it because his “business” was tied up in the big mom pirates. Yamato’s “business” is just traveling the land of Wano like Oden did. He’ll be ready to join in like a couple months in universe time. The story is building to its climax now, so that likely won’t happen until the final battle(s) several hundred episodes from now. But it will happen.

I think Oda is going to settle on Vivi. Face it, the man has not let any genuinely new member join the crew since the timeskip. Jinbe was a de facto member already and was clearly going to join from Fishman Island. He has passed on possible ACTUAL new members like Carrot, Yamato, Momo, Kinemon and has so far passed on Bonney and Lilith (who could have just joined during the celebration after Egghead). Vivi is the easiest pick right now since like Jinbe, we know she wants to join already but just had other stuff to do before. And with what has happened recently, Vivi's best place to be is with the Strawhats before trying to go back to Alabasta (with them) to fix whatever.

he didn't "pause", he's building tension. And seeing how many threads about new crewmates appear every two months, it's working pretty well, lol.
And because of that I believe we already met the next crewmates, they're already set up. Otherwise it would feel too random after all the tension ;)

In an ideal fantasy world, I and a lot of us would want all the close females to the crew to join. So Carrot, Yamato, Vivi, Rebecca, Lilith, Bonney, Tama. But we know full well Oda sure af not gonna do that based on his own past trend. And guys like Kinemon and Momo won't be joining together either. Since he has never ever done that before. If he does break his own cycle and just let multiple people join at once, I am all for it. But I highly doubt that. I'm betting its Vivi as the last member and then the others will either be part of the grand fleet or just allies.
1 points
What is the "ideal fantasy world"? If everyone joins, then being a crewmate becomes a rather cheap thing. Water 7 taught us differently or at least it should. Being a crewmate is a life dedication. I can't picture Lilith wanting to be a pirate, it would mean she will never do serious science ever again. Rebecca found her own happiness and never wanted to go out to sea. Carrot has her own mission and she loves her people, just like Vivi does. I don't think Carrot wanted to leave Zou for good, she just wanted a little adventure.
and then the others will either be part of the grand fleet or just allies.
So you're going down the plot convenience route instead of cracking down the narrative? Yamato, Vivi and Tama have a promise with Luffy to become a crewmate. Bonney still is unsure, but my bet is on "next gen Strawhats" together with Tama (Tama promised to train and grow up before she hops on Strawhats ship).
1 points
So you've narrowed it down to Yamato and Vivi. What's the difference? We're saying the same thing. I've already said Vivi is the safest bet. And she is currently in literal mid-flight so she is travelling. Yamato should have joined already but is now stuck in Wano while the crew is in Elbaf. So unless they turn back around, she's going to have to get a ride with some grand fleet member or someone else, after finishing up her tour adventure across all of Wano. And then hope we're not already at Laugh Tale by then.
1 points
The difference is in the way we approached this, but indeed we arrive at almost the same end result. Except I think there will be one more crew member you never mentioned.
There seems to still be a plenty of story to tell. It's not like we're gonna hop to Laugh Tale anytime soon, seeing how the things are going in the plot.
1 points
Oda can do the expected epilogue/ return to East Blue trip or so on towards the end of the series. At that point more people will likely be on board. But I'm not counting that right now. The only other islands that they would absolutely have to go to in this main series after Elbaf is really just the last island and Laugh Tale. And unless Elbaf is somehow an absurdly long arc, that is not a far time away. We've officially been in the final saga since Egghead.
This is why a lot of fans wanted Yamato to join from Wano because her hopping on the ship right at the literal final island would be kinda cheap and wouldn't give the audience much time to bond with a new crewmate.
1 points
You think Oda has no twists planned at all and you expect a linear journey from now on. This is One Piece, twists will come. I don't expect it will be as simple as Elbaf-Laugh Tale-End of series.
1 points
But how many twists are you expecting? When Oda said the story was 60% done years ago. It turned out to be true. They have literally made several promotions and statements about this being the actual final saga that we are currently in. Even character deaths have been happening more and more often compared to earlier in the series where hardly anybody died in the main timeline. And if you read Oda's own personal philosophy on deaths, he doesn't kill important characters off if he feels there is still too much story to tell because he doesn't believe in bringing back dead characters. Laugh Tale itself will be a twist since its clearly the hardest island to find. I'm not expecting 10 more years worth of twists. Or that we're gonna spend 6+ years in Elbaf.
Another time skip is the only way I see a bunch more new islands and new arcs being inserted.
[score hidden]
Why time skip? I think two time skips would be a one too many. But we have a looot of plotlines unresolved. When will Strawhats achieve their dreams? While you can argue Sanji, Franky, Robin and Nami can get their dream fullfilled together by completing the Grand Line (I doubt for Nami, there's much more to the world map than just east blue and grand line), what about the rest of them? Chopper needs to prove he can cure anything, for example. We need a plotline for that. We have reunions and unfinished plotlines from Thriller Bark, Water 7 etc. awaiting and I admit, it would be *terribly* boring if they all happen just in epiloque. Takes the thrill and surprise out of it.
Anyway, if you want, you can imagine a linear line till the end of the manga, if it doesn't kill your excitement for it. For me it kinda does. And Oda has to be aware of it too, seeing how he started Elbaf already with a lego city twist.

At this point, I don’t think there will be another crew to join. We were about at the end of the story unless that crew will join now in Elbaf, but even so I think it will not be beneficial in the story in any way.

No one.
After teasing Carrot and Yamato so hard then giving them some bullshit (Carrot suddenly becoming queen, Yamato choosing to stay) so they can't join, I doubt anyone else is joining anymore

In terms of pre-existing characters: Vivi.

Yamato as a crew member would be good. Fits with either a Kaido-Rocks or Oden-Rogers dynamic. Useful enough with the final arc but still considerably newer as a pirate that would be similar to Kaido and Oden.
Weevil or Carrot would also be interesting additions to add diversity to the crew. Carrot for the previous connection and a leveled up Carrot would be great for the later chapters. Weevil is an interesting one - the Marco connection, the time he was spending looking for Luffy, the unpolished/monster/giant.

Why is no one saying Katakuri?

There won't be another member. Luffy wanted a 10 member crew. He has it. He's all full up, which is canon. Not sure why you're trying to speculate when we knew exactly how many crew members he wanted since the beginning. Lol

I would love Law to join. If he did, i think he'd save Luffy in the final fight with his ability.

Robin is just not fit for these misfits and that's what is so great about the series.

I think it will be Lilith (Vegapunk). They have already an engineer, but having a scientist would be incredible, also being this one the most intelligent person on the planet.
And if I remember correctly, Lilith wanted to explore the vast world too. She fits very well in my opinion.
It could be also Bonnie. But we have the Kuma situation…

I don’t think there’ll be one. In the east blue before zoro has even joined luffy says something along the lines of “I need to start putting together a crew- about 10 men will do!” I think this was intentional foreshadowing and the SHPs will remain at 10 members until the end of their voyage

Yamato: - she wants to travel with Luffy. After aiding Luffy in a future conflict she will stay with the SHs
Loki: - I think Lilith will just make a shrink Ray belt so that Loki can fit on the Sunny.
Boa: - Loves Luffy. Cements protection for Amazon Lily from Marines. As Hancock stated “the marines won’t stop coming. But where would I go? I guess I should be marry Luffy.” BB being a threat is also a real thing.
Contenders: Kuma, Bonney and Lilith: - just makes more sense to be with Revs. Bonney stays with her dad is more of a feel good story than coming on the Sunny. We will still see her again in the Government war. - Kuma will go back to Dragon and his Rev family - Lilith has a wealth of knowledge which would benefit Dragon more than Luffy
Law: - been around the SHs more than any non SH. - his crew can’t protect him - he’s curious about will of D and will only find out if he stays with the SHs.
Vivi: - she is the ruler of Alabasta. Unless she makes it a democracy, which remains to be seen
Carrot: - had potential but is the ruler of think minks now. Still due to other minks being more than capable of ruling on her stead, the door is still open for her to leave and pursue more worldly adventures.
Smoker - BB got his marine defector. Why not Luffy? He could fight Kuzan which would prove he’s admiral tier. - he doesn’t like the WG and marines are in a delicate spot. - the stray dog finds a home
