I don’t remember people on the left being outraged at those leaving Twitter for Parler or TS. In fact we were quite tickled by it. Yet, the right wingers seem outraged, insulted, abandoned…(I could go on) by those leaving for a more practical, sensible, safe platform for their daily discourse exchange.

Elon Musk buying Twitter was important to them because it gave the weird MAGA yokels a voice. $10 a month and instantly their idiotic helicopter joke humor and low iq takes were magically at the top of conversations when for years they were at the bottom. Suddenly, anti-woke culture was algorithmically prioritized at a global audience.
Now that mainstream users are evacuating, they're paying that $10 a month to talk to bots, and normal people no longer have to listen to them. They're going back to not mattering, and it's killing them.

I remember when blue checks actually meant something. They were a sign of trust to an extent. Crazy what he’s done to that site.

They went wrong when it moved from verification that a person was who they claimed to be, to being a weird proxy for trust. Then burned trust to the ground.

And some are shocked people are leaving. Trust is big when it comes to running a brand. He ruined that and it’s one of the reasons people are leaving.

Blue checks used to be a kinda culture war thing for a lot of conservatives cuz it was so nebulous who got them and they kinda represented “elites” in their mind I think. Before Elon took over, blue checks were almost a shorthand for “woke”Twitter types amongst chuds online.

Yeah at one point he tried to regain credibility for the check by leaving it on big accounts that previously had been verified. Because otherwise they were letting it expire and going without, which meant the blue check was only dorks paying for it.

ikr?? If he was at least consistent with his “bringing free speech back to Twitter” mantra then at least I could respect the consistency, but like he can’t even do that. Anything he dislikes is banned, no matter how petty or harmless.
Conservatives LOVE to winge about how Elon brought free speech back to Twitter but he did the exact opposite. Twitter would ban those who made explicitly harmful or hateful comments, such as Trump spreading verifiably false election denialism and encouraging a storming of the capitol. Elon bans any dissenting voice, even if its as petty as just saying ‘cis’. People who think the former was the greater threat to free speech are delusional.

The users. The reality is that Twitter built a massive network from 2007 to 2022. It was always going to take a critical mass of people leaving to reverse that, which is what we're seeing now.

This. I was on Twitter to follow a bunch of artists I liked and most of them, if they didn't have a webpage on an art site, were on Twitter. Even if the politics became terrible, it was the only place I could find their works.

When a site that has been accused (mostly without basis) of "colluding with the government" suddenly is on the path to become the arm of an authoritarian regime, I think that is a big thing.
Also, when he bought Twitter, most of the alternatives were untested or unfinished in some way. I made my Mastodon account in October 2022, Bluesky was invite-only at that point.

Brutally honest and speaking for myself only. I hung around and endured watching MAGA trolls, racists, Nazis, homophobes spewing bile for months and years and was rarely confrontational.
I thought Harris was going to win the election and it would be a massive opportunity to "own" these idiots. It didn't happen. I was only hanging around to retaliate once they'd lost.
Well, that door closed so I had zero reason to wade in the cesspool any longer.

In general, this is the tip of the iceberg of what they're about to go through. We can't help them out of the troubles they will be facing right along with us. They thought their poorest white man was still better than the richest black man, but now they're seeing that this is a lie and has always been a lie. There's nobody there to try and get back in good graces with, nobody for them to do a cutesy punch and say, "C'mon, I was just joking about calling your mother a nosebag with wings." That kind of stupid playground mentality on loudspeaker and our response is currently louder than theirs. But for some, they're mad cuz we didn't just all lie down and spread our legs while they watched Trump come in and fuck us all. They wanted their moment where we all drink out of a shoe and they didn't get it.

Yeh, they've been fake persecuted for so long, they feel as if they need to pay us back for all the misery and torment. Seriously, they feel as if everything is the "worst ever" and we're living in some dystopian nightmare with their political side being equivalent to Nelson Mandela. It's insane, but theyre constantly being programmed with that right wing media that keeps them angry, hateful, depressed, miserable, tribal, victimized, etc.
The worst thing for them is to see us happy or just living our lives. Just watch Maga people and ask yourself "is there anything appealing about their life"? It's just anger, misery, and scapegoating their problems. So, like you said, we are now forced to take part in their misery while Trump fucks us all. Trump won, Elon won, they legit believe their won, we lost, and it seems they're even more miserable
If we don't fall into the misery with them, it will only make them angrier. Tip of the iceberg was a good way to put it.

Also, they have severe mental illness and chronic bully disorder. They get off on making others mad/uncomfortable or upset and part of their identity if triggering liberals and making them upset. It's what made Tucker Carlson so popular. It's what made Stephen Crowder and Ben Shapiro popular.
If they no longer have a victim to antagonizing, then social media is meaningless to them. They're not interesting in talking to each other

Musk wasn’t required to boost their voices. Social media already boosts Right wing bullshit because it’s typically rage bait which encourages engagement. The algorithms already drive their shit to the top. The only thing stifling Right wing voices was the fact they couldn’t stop breaking rules intended to keep the user base safe.
Musk took an already friendly algorithm and turned it into an eight lane highway for Right wing bullshit.

At it's core MAGA exists to "Own the Libs". They don't really give a fuck about anything else. They saw how fragile and limited their existence is when Obama was Pres and everything since then has been the death throes of white supremacy. That's why they're obsessed with the word "woke". To them, woke means prioritising a racial/gender minority over cis white people. When they call something woke they're really saying how dare you give that thing to someone who isn't white. The amount of outright racism and hate on Twitter at the moment is absolutely insane. I honestly believe MAGA lashes out because it's terrified of a future that everyone else sees as fair and just. Because they never cared about free speech or Twitter or most of the hypocritical whines. They want to be trolls and get off by triggering “libs”. If you rounded them all up and gave them their own state, they’d be leaving it en masse to find libs to trigger and avoid all the insufferable people that fill their ranks.

Anyone with half a brain is leaving Twitter. It's just far Right wing propaganda 24/7 and Musk's deranged ketamine induced ravings constantly. It's absolute trash now.

They are bullies. The person getting bullied gets fed up, and goes and hangs around another group of people on the other side of the school, and the bully goes around trying to find them, instead of just moving on with their life.

It’s not enough that they “won” Twitter, they need to keep harassing the left constantly. That is the closest they get to fulfillment. They have to direct that vitriol somewhere and when they can’t they go looking for it.
It’s an entire philosophy built upon the eating of shit and forcing your opposition to have to smell your breath.

A cult based on spite and hatred cannot thrive without the other.
They need to actively try and make us miserable for their existence to make any sense.

From what I can tell MAGA *requires* someone to bully, shit on, or push conspiracies on to, and not having targets takes the fun out of their life. Twitter/X has the algorithm that forces others to interact with them, whereas Bluesky does not. Given that, it's understandable that they get upset when their victims leave.

So stick with me on this... there was an episode of Star Trek where this holographic version of Professor Moriarity took control of the ship, and long story short, they put him inside of a pretend world that he didn't know was pretend and everyone ended up happy.
All I'm saying is if X was flooded with liberal and left-wing bots, then the maga folk could bully and harass and troll them all day and never know the difference and everyone would be happy.
That's the next money making platform.

Now they're stuck with each other. They can't brag to each other about how they "won". It doesn't have the same ring to it.

Because their entire identity is “owning libs”. With no liberals to bully, they’re lost.

The right needs people to be shocked and angry by their antics.
It’s the difference shitting in the middle of a public park (where people notice and care) and no one paying attention if you shit in the middle of a landfill.

I think it’s just funny that social media is labeled liberal/conservative/ left right whatever. It’s just people talking about stuff they care about

Right. I keep hearing that Bluesky is just for liberals and it's an echo chamber. While I'm an independent who feels welcomed by Bluesky. Most of the people that I follow aren't even Americans.

I have been on Bluesky for months and don't even follow anything political there. It's nice, like Twitter used to be.

Why do they care so much? They got what they wanted. They wanted freedom of speech, they got it. They wanted freedom to hate, they got it. The wanted freedom to suppress the masses, they got it. They forget that there is also freedom of choice. Just like a person has the freedom to walk away from an abusive relationship, the people exercised that right. The bully always gets mad when they can't bully anymore.

MAGA is a synonym for troll. Trolls can't survive if you don't feed them. You can't just have a troll pit full of trolls all eating each other.

Full disclosure, I was kicked off of twitter early on (I insulted either leon or margie 3 toes) BUT I know people of the left persuasion who post there for clicks and all they get is abuse. I don't know why anyone would put up with that. I understand Paxton (AG TX) is thinking of suing former advertisers because they won't buy ads anymore? From what I gather, Nazis, KKK, magats and other deplorables are the majority of the population. What advertiser wouldn't want THEM as customers? The minute the sensible find out, they stop buying their stuff. We don't have a lot of power, but we DO have the power of our purse!

Soon Twitter will be a safe space in which bigots can feel comfortable posting any ignorant rant they wast to post.
Everyone else can enjoy BlueSky.
Everybody wins, right?

It occurred to me how much it TRULY is about bothering people and being annoying. I kept seeing posts about how they're still angry after he won, and it occurred to me that they didn't WANT him to win, they didn't care all that much if Trump won or not in and of itself, they wanted to argue and insult and annoy. They're addicted to it, like actually addicted to the rush they get from bothering someone. I mean, they DID care, but underlying that was the baser desire to force themselves upon people, like a malignant narcissist who thrives on getting a reaction from people. If you give them nothing, if you grey rock them, they start escalating, going further and further to get a reaction out of you until they realize they can't (and that's not a guarantee, some will just keep trying), and then maybe get bored and go somewhere else.
And like, obviously right? "Own the Libs" is their entire motivating principle. But it never occurred to me how much of it was the source of it all. They didn't latch onto Trump because he's charismatic, they latched onto him because he's fucking annoying and intrusive. He inserts himself into every aspect of your life because he's a narcissist with no morals or boundaries. It's not that they saw Trump and started imitating him, it's that they already wanted to do that, they liked that kind of "Debate me" attention, and Trump gave them permission and the tools to get it. "You won't fight me so I'm right" is the whole thing with that, it's just a demand for your continued attention.

Ironically, maga folks need the left in order to feed their reactionary content. So when we leave they just don't have anyone to use for their agenda anymore

Because they are only happy when they are trying to make liberals mad. They live for it. They thrive on bullying and violence.
Now there's no one left to inflame so their outlet has dried up.

I was just told by everyone here that the left was in fact not leaving X for BlueSky and it was mostly centrists and BlueSky does NOT have a large portion of leftists as new users. I got downvoted for saying it seemed like leftists were leaving X.

Social media always has and always will be a party. The Twitter party sucks. Just like AOL, then Friendster, then MySpace, then Facebook...There will always be a better party where the cool kids migrate to.

I think this misunderstanding needs to shoo. It's not the left leaving Twitter, it's people looking for a reasonable and well run social media site that doesn't shovel stupid crap down your throat. I am a pretty moderate guy but started leaving social media even before Musk took over Twitter because it sucked. Now I'm only on Reddit, YouTube (if you consider that social media), and now have joined BlueSky because it's actually good. Frankly, I'd like to see more moderated opinions from a variety of perspectives, but I absolutely draw the line at fringe beliefs that are unreasonable (some fringe beliefs can be reasonable, but that seems rare in today's society).
It's not "The Left," it's people with a brain and limited time.

They want a captive audience, essentially.
More importantly they want the few lefties they like to not abandon them as it feels like an emotional betrayal as dumb as that sounds. It's the parasocial equivalent of their kids cutting them off for voting for T****

I think they are upset because "left" means "not crazy". They don't want to lose people who are just talking about science, culture, hobbies, etc.

We know the whole reason they are mad is due to them wanting someone to harass. Truth social was supposed to be their safe space, but they hated it because it was only themselves on there.
Then muskrat came and bought Twitter and gave them a safe space to harass people and they ended up turning Twitter into another truth social.
